There aren’t a ton of available spots due to graduation in the Crimson lineup - basically one attackman, the face-off and the goalie (we’ll get to that shortly). What Harvard wasn’t pleased with was their unsettled defense, particularly the number of goals they gave up off of face-off losses. Coach Joe Breschi said postgame that he was excited to have found a second face-off guy in freshman George Kalos to pair with veteran Andrew Tyeryar, while the Crimson staff was impressed by DeGennaro’s ability to scrap and Barraco’s ability to win clamps. In an exhibition with no official stats that featured nearly 50 face-offs, it’d be foolish to speculate on specific final numbers, but both staffs guessed that Carolina won at least 70%. He paired with sophomore Andrew DeGennaro to improve a unit that finished last season having won 39.7%, 67th in DI. Among others, the Crimson were playing without sophomore Tommy Martinson, a starting defenseman last season, sophomore middie Lucas Hilsenrath, who is battling for a first-line spot, and four-star freshman Teddy Malone.Īdditionally, three-star face-off specialist Matt Barraco was cleared to return from an injury two days prior and is still working back into game shape, as well as adjusting to college lacrosse.
